Since we are currently in the Annual Open Enrollment Period for BOTH Medicare Beneficiaries and Individuals looking to purchase Individual Health Insurance, it is important to know about the Special Election Period available to those affected by a Weather-Related Emergency or Major Disaster. Those states are: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Special Election Period will run from October 15th – December 31, 2017 for Medicare Beneficiaries and November 1 – December 31, 2017 for Individuals looking to purchase Individual Health Insurance. Remember, the rules have become extremely strict for those shopping for individual health coverage outside of these annual open enrollment dates. Without Proof of Loss of Individual Coverage in Writing directly from the Insurance Carrier, Individual Coverage cannot be purchased.

REMINDER for Medicare Beneficiaries: For those currently covered by a Medicare Advantage Plan looking to move to a Medicare Supplement, you must prove Good Health by answering Medical Questions before being approved for your new benefits.
